Mercy Health breaks ground at new 24/7 Trumbull County emergency/outpatient center
A new emergency center bringing critical care to Trumbull County patients living and working in the community is expected to open by the end of 2026.
On Aug. 12, Mercy Health officials broke ground on the freestanding emergency department and outpatient imaging center at 507 Educational Highway in Champion Township.
The new facility is close to the Trumbull Career and Technical Center and will offer 24/7 emergency care and outpatient imaging, as well as full laboratory and phlebotomy services.
Dr. John Luellen, the state president of Mercy Health, said the new Champion Emergency Center expands access for Mahoning Valley residents seeking high-quality, compassionate healthcare.
“This new facility reflects our vision to make health care easier and enhance health care access through new points of care across the region,” he said. “By expanding emergency and outpatient services in Trumbull County, we’re taking another meaningful step toward bringing essential services closer to home and making it easier for patients to get the care they need.”
As one of the state’s largest counties, Trumbull County’s health care needs are always growing, according to Charlotte Gardiner, president of Mercy Health’s St. Joseph Warren Hospital.
“We are proud to invest in Champion Township and bring essential emergency and outpatient services directly to this community,” Gardiner said. “This project is about more than bricks and mortar—it’s about delivering high-quality, compassionate and accessible care to our neighbors.
Providers will be focused on rapid diagnosis and treatment at the Champion Emergency Center, with the same level of care as Mercy Health’s hospital-based emergency rooms, according to Gardiner.
“We’re especially grateful for the exceptional doctors, nurses, technicians and caregivers who will give that care to every patient who walks through our doors,” Gardiner said.
Mercy Health’s Champion Emergency Center is expected to open in the winter of 2026.
