Third-generation Mahoning County company makes publication’s top remodelers list

A national publication released its 47th annual report ranking home remodeling companies, including a longtime family-owned business from Mahoning County who have appeared on the list several times in the past.

The Qualified Remodeler Magazine Top 500 list ranks the nation’s most successful and still-growing companies every year in the home remodeling industry. Experts craft the yearly rankings based on the number of years the business has been operating, certifications in the industry and community service, among other factors.

Duncan’s Bath and Kitchen Center in Poland has made the list over 20 times, now with three generations of experience in remodeling homes in the Mahoning Valley and western Pennsylvania.

In 2013, Duncan’s was the only remodeler in the Mahoning Valley area who made the Qualified Remodeler Top 500 list.

“We’re incredibly honored to be recognized by Qualified Remodeler as one of the Top 500 remodeling companies in the country,” third-generation owner Jason Duncan said. “This recognition is a reflection of our team’s hard work, dedication, and unwavering commitment to serving our customers with integrity and excellence.”

Elmer Duncan started the business in 1956 before his son Tom Duncan came on board in 1974.

Tom would later become the second-generation owner, earning his master plumbing license in 1982. Tom created an HVAC and an electrical division for Duncan’s to expand services to clients before buying the business from his father in 1989.

Almost 15 years ago, Jason Duncan joined Duncan’s Bath & Kitchen Center, solidifying the company’s third generation of family-owned operation.

“Duncan’s Bath & Kitchen Center brings a deep-rooted commitment to quality, trust and community,” Jason said. “We offer decades of hands-on experience, a strong local reputation, and a dedication to doing things right—from the first consultation to the final walkthrough.”

In 1992, Duncan’s was recognized for being the only kitchen and bath remodeler licensed by the state in the plumbing, hydronics, electrical, heating and air conditioning industries.

According to Jason, working at Duncan’s goes beyond simply remodeling kitchens and bathrooms.

“We’re helping people improve their homes and their lives,” he said. “That means listening closely, being honest about budgets and timelines, showing up when we say we will and doing the job right the first time.”

He said there are no “cookie-cutter remodels” for homes.

“We take the time to understand your vision and bring it to life with high-quality materials, skilled craftsmanship, and clear, honest communication every step of the way,” Jason said. “Our goal is simple: to create beautiful, functional spaces that you’ll love for years to come.”

When they’re not working, the Duncan’s team dedicates time giving back to local non-profit organizations like Project MKC, as well as the Salvation Army.

“For over 70 years, we’ve focused on delivering personalized service and high-quality craftsmanship—and being included on this list reinforces that we’re doing things the right way,” Jason said. “Homeowners in the Mahoning Valley should work with us because we treat every project like it’s our own home.”
