Salem groundbreaking celebrates growth, expanded care options for seniors
There are already 50 individuals on the waiting list for a new 34-acre Shepherd of the Valley senior living community coming to Columbiana County, showcasing the growing need for quality senior care.
Officials broke ground at 2 p.m. on Wednesday for Shepherd of the Valley Salem, at 600 Legacy Lane on the corner of Route 62 Bypass and North Ellsworth Road in Salem.
Work is getting started on the future site of the independent and assisted living facility, led by DeSalvo Construction.
The Columbiana County facility will offer independent living and assisted living, with future plans to add a skilled nursing and rehabilitation center on the same site.
The project includes constructing a community clubhouse, fitness center, on-site restaurant, bocce and pickleball courts, raised gardens and dog park.
Shepherd of the Valley’s Salem facility will have 36 independent-living villas, 52 independent-living apartment units and 36 assisted-living suites with a variety of floor plans including two bedrooms.
Lauren Flauto is the director of marketing, sales and communication for Shepherd of the Valley.
“We are excited to expand our mission in Salem and bring high-quality care and lifestyle opportunities to more families,” Flauto said.
Shepherd of the Valley started and operates independent and assisted living facilities in Liberty Township, Poland and Howland, as well as short-term rehabilitation services in Boardman.
Apartments also include routine housekeeping and access to shared laundry room.
