Mahoning Valley Giant Eagle supermarkets extend earning period for Free Turkey Program

Mahoning Valley residents now have more time to secure their Thanksgiving centerpiece dish for free from Giant Eagle supermarket.

The earning window has been extended through Sunday, November 9.

In the past week, Giant Eagle stated it has taken numerous steps to show up for the community, including the donation of $1 million to regional food bank partners and the company’s one-day penny exchange event that resulted in an additional $2 million in Giant Eagle gift cards being awarded to customers.

The extension of the earning period for the retailer’s popular free turkey promotion is another small way Giant Eagle said it is trying to make the upcoming holiday season more affordable for customers.

Representatives said the promotion has already helped Giant Eagle shoppers earn more than 160,000 free turkeys. The four-day extension will provide an additional full weekend of shopping opportunities, when many families make their weekly grocery trip.

Customers can track their progress toward the $350 threshold through their register receipts and the Giant Eagle mobile app.

Those who meet the threshold can redeem their frozen turkey through November 30, 2025. Customers who prefer to pay if forward can donate the value of their earned turkey to Giant Eagle’s local food bank partners, turning their shopping into support for those in need.
