Women’s clothing boutique celebrates 50 years with 50% off deal in Youngstown
Suzanne Kessler is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the clothing boutique in Youngstown which started as a tennis clothing shop in Niles.
“My mother was teaching tennis, bring her portable sewing machine and in between giving lessons, she would make warm up suits,” Kessler said. “They looked like the Adidas black with a white stripe down the leg. That’s how we started. People would come down from Cleveland because we were the only ones around that carried high-end Italian lines.”
In 1975, Suzanne Kessler, her mom and her sister Kathy started their own business called Tennis Connection.
Fourteen years after opening Tennis Connection in Niles, Suzanne’s sister and business partner Kathy Kane passed away.
“I met my husband, and we moved to Youngstown to have a bigger market. I switched it all over from tennis to a boutique,” Kessler said. “We have fashion, jewelry, accessories and keep getting new customers and new business, so 50 years goes fast.”
Now known as Suzanne’s, the shop has been at the Boardman-Poland Road location for 30 years, according to Kessler.
“A lot of our original customers are still buying from us. They used to buy tennis clothes, and now their kids and grandkids are buying jewelry, sweaters, jeans, dresses and athleisure from us. It’s exciting,” Kessler said.
She’s offering customers a special 50% off the item of their choice to celebrate 50 years in business.
“We’re celebrating 50 fabulous years,” Kessler said. “I have a great staff, and the women that work for me, they’re awesome, and they love all the customers.”
