Canfield native returns home, launches Ella Vatoür: e-commerce skin care company

You might have heard Canfield resident BrookeLynn Cohol singing as part of the duo known as The 232 during Light Up Night in downtown Youngstown.

When she’s not on stage, she’s busy running Ella Vatoür, an ecommerce company founded by Cohol when she returned to the Mahoning Valley area from California.

“I was out there for about a decade, and I’d hit the jackpot in a lot of ways. I had all the things, but the truth was that I wasn’t living authentically as myself, because I was helping a company grow huge,” Cohol said. “I realize that I’m not even being me anymore.”

That was about two and a half years ago, and ever since, Cohol has been focused on becoming her most authentic self while encouraging others around her to do the same.

For Cohol, the brand is all about self-discovery, using your talents and setting goals to become who your best self throughout life.

“Become and be exactly who you are,” she said. “It’s important for all of us to do that, because at the end of the day, chasing a fancy house and a nice car, that’s great, but it doesn’t give you this true, ultimate joy that you can see within. When you do get that within, that’s where the good vibe glow motto comes from, because you feel really good. When you feel really good about what you’re doing in life, you glow. You feel good about life.”

Through Ella Vatoür, she’s able to create skin care products that help support glowing from within.

“They’re all-natural skin care products that actually work in formulations and ratios and ingredients that are smart,” Cohol said. “A skin care routine doesn’t need 500 different steps. You just need smart ingredients to apply to your skin to take care of yourself, hydrate properly and keep your skin healthy.”

The first Ella Vatoür product Cohol released was an eye serum for tired eyes and dark circles, originally inspired by one of Cohol’s cousins.

Cohol’s newest launch is the Ella Vatoür Evolution series, which are five different essential oil blends.

“It’s taken me a year to develop, since it’s just me here, so it takes some time. The essential oil blends are actually based on science in the olfactory system,” she said. “Our sense of smell is connected directly to our brain, faster than any of the other senses that we have. If you smell lavender, for example, it’s scientifically proven that it slows down your brain waves. If you are feeling like your past keeps creeping up, you can’t let go of this person who did this horrible thing to you. There are essential oils that you can actually breathe in that remind you to let it go and relax.”

A portion of every purchase made on the Ella Vatoür website is automatically donated to Inspiring Minds in Youngstown.

“I’ve always wanted to give back, but what I really dug about Inspiring Minds is empowering youth with the same kind of message that Ella Vatoür gives to learn and find your authentic self,” Cohol said. “They inspire kids to be authentic to themselves, which is the message that I had growing up. My parents are so supportive of their creative daughter, always running around doing all kinds of creative things and adventuring around the country.”

For aspiring creatives, Cohol encourages surrounding yourself with people who encourage your success.

“If there’s nobody encouraging around you, just keep doing what you’re doing and be your own cheerleader,” she said. “You can do it all. The truth is, when your passion is so strong for what you’re going for, nothing’s going to stop you. Nothing’s going to get in the way; you might have a hiccup where you have to push pause for a minute, because life is life, but that doesn’t mean you have to stop.”
