Pet grooming and supply store open in new, larger Liberty Township location

Customers who walk into Furr-Ever Friendz will be greeted by some unique shop pets, including at least one tortoise and a talkative parrot.

Shawna Achten is the owner of Furr-Ever Friendz, a local pet grooming and supply store.

“My dream has always been to own my own shop. I went to the Trumbull Career & Technical Center when I was in high school, and I took animal management technology, that’s what it was called back then,” she said. “In the class, you bounced around everything, from the grooming section to the small animals to the business management end of it. I really liked the management part of it, and the pet store part of it.”

Achten opened Furr-Ever Friendz on East Market Street in Warren in 2024, getting the business started by building up clientele for grooming services with small to medium cats and dogs.

“My husband said, ‘Let’s just do it.’ We already had the open space with his bill bonding company,” Achten said. “I was lucky enough to be able to find some people getting rid of product to begin with, and to be able to put on my shelves. I’m already getting phone calls for bookings for grouping, so it seems like it’s going to be a great location.”

At the beginning of 2026, Achten relocated Furr-Ever Friendz into a larger space, going from 400 square feet to 1,600 square feet.

She’s hosting a grand opening celebration with the Youngstown Warren Regional Chamber at 2 p.m. on March 3 at the new shop at 2710 Belmont Ave. in Liberty Township.

“The first week I am going to offer $10 nail clippings on cats and dogs,” she said. “I have a small cat section, a small dog section aquarium section, which is all growing. There’s a small bird section, and we have cages, toys, and food for rats, birds, rabbits and turtles. A lot of people need feeder bugs, so I will have roaches and all that that people need.”

In addition to supplies for pets, there are some small animals for sale at Furr-Ever Friendz.

“I have one baby chinchilla still up for sale,” Achten said. “I have two types of hamsters and two birds for sale. I have some reptiles, from geckos and a couple Ball Python snakes, to a couple baby chameleons up for sale. I have actually a huge reptile section; it’s actually the biggest section I have, because reptile stuff is easier for me to get. I’m into reptiles big time also.”
