Cafaro Company purchases Regal movie theater in Boardman for $2.3 million

The movie theater on South Avenue in Boardman was sold in February for $2.3 million to a new owner, according to the Mahoning County Auditor’s records.

Joe Bell is the director of corporate communications at the Cafaro Company.

“Our company purchased the Regal theater property in Boardman. We are currently leasing it back to Regal, and it continues to operate normally,” Bell said.

The Regal Cinema South was first built in 1986 and reopened in 2021.

The purchase includes 5.4 acres on South Avenue and last appraised at $3 million, according to the auditor’s website.

According to Bell, the Regal Cinema at the Eastwood Mall in Niles is also undergoing a complete renovation.

“While maintaining each theater’s stadium seating, the seats themselves are being upgraded to luxury recliners,” Bell said. “The sound systems are also being upgraded.”

The renovation extends to the lobby, concession stand, restrooms and all 14 of the individual theater rooms.

The Regal Boulevard Centre theater in Niles is staying open during the renovation process, which is expected to be finished by the summer, according to Bell.
