Community-driven, two-story antique shop coming to downtown Salem
A new, two-story shop that’s perfect for finding vintage treasures and curated antiques is coming to downtown Salem’s Broadway Avenue.
Taylor Harvey is the owner of Magnolia Vintage & Co., a vintage shop in Columbiana with home decor and accessories.
“We are currently a smaller shop in Columbiana. We’ve been here for about two years, and honestly, we have started to outgrow our space. We were looking to find a bigger building that we could expand into and elevate what we already have now,” she said.
Harvey is joining forces with Columbiana Vintage to open Broadway Exchange, a new shopping experience for curated, one-of-a-kind vintage goods and antiques.
“We actually collaborated to do the Market on Main together, so he is one of my co-hosts with that. We built a relationship over mutually owning an antique store on the same strip, and then we started that market together,” Harvey said. “This is the next step to our business/friendship to start a big antique mall.”
Harvey explained the Broadway Exchange is set to be a community hub for classes, events and pop-up markets for local vendors.
“We’re interested in having an antique vendor mall, but we also want it to be a community hub. The space would give us the opportunity to have classes and similar events with the Market on Main, and pop-up events for local vendors as well,” Harvey said.
The two-story building on Broadway Avenue used to be a Sears department store.
“We want it to be more of like a community hub that has antiques,” Harvey said. “We want it to be a space where people can come and turn off their brain for a little bit, just enjoy the peace and solace. Sit down and read a book, join in some classes, learn how to do some sourdough or paint-and-sips and meet some new friends. We wanted it to be like the Market on Main and an antique store in one, so it’s more community driven than just the regular vintage shop.”
Harvey said she’s thrilled to be joining the local business community and offer a unique retail experience beyond just an antique store in Salem.
“We’re very thankful. We’ve had a lot of people reaching out to us and congratulating us, and a lot of also regular customers that are excited to see what we’ll do with the space, knowing what we’ve done with our current shops and how magic they are by themselves. An even bigger [shop] means more magic,” Harvey said.
Vendors interested in selling antiques or artwork at the Broadway Exchange can apply online.
“We’re going to be moving in vendors at the end of May, and probably opening up mid-June,” Harvey said. “That is the time that we’re aiming for. We’ll probably have a grand opening ceremony that people can look forward to, which will be an awesome event.”
Before Broadway Exchange opens, customers can still visit Magnolia & Co. Vintage and Columbiana Vintage, and the final Market on Main will be on May 16.
Magnolia & Co. is open from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday at 8 South Main St. in Columbiana, and Columbiana Vintage is open from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Mondau through Saturday at 111 South Main St.
