JTR Garden Center to hold ribbon-cutting ceremony in Youngstown

After holding its soft opening nearly three months ago, JTR Garden Center is here to stay — and ready to open fully.

The greenery-supply business will hold its ribbon-cutting on Monday, June 8, from 11 a.m. to noon. Located at 438 E. Western Reserve Road, JTR Garden Center caters to contractors and homeowners in the Mahoning Valley.

Two years ago, Jacob Rutana, owner of the business, purchased the property after owning JTR Lawn & Landscape for seven years. His interest had grown in learning more about the materials’ origination, so he took it upon himself to do so.

“I had the idea one day, maybe I can supply myself, I can supply other contractors and homeowners with high-quality materials, give them all a good price on it and, hopefully, one day, become more of a staple in the community,” Rutana said.

Rutana said that revitalizing the property hasn’t been an overnight process, but he remained firm on making the idea happen “one way or another.”

On its website, which originally went live on April 16, customers can find information regarding bulk mulch, topsoil and fill dirt, decorative stones, plants and trees and landscape supplies. Also promoted on the website are pickup and delivery services, with delivery prices ranging from $40 to $75 depending on the average travel time from the center.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony follows nearly three months after JTR Garden Center’s soft opening. Jacob Rutana, owner of JTR Garden Center, now brings his landscaping experience directly to the community.

An average workday for Rutana consists of arriving at JTR Lawn & Landscape around 6:30 a.m. before rolling out with his team at 7:30 a.m. for the day. He’ll then head over to the center to ensure things are running smoothly, whether with his staff, checking stock on materials or assisting customers.

New contractors and homeowners alike patron JTR Garden Center, according to Rutana, who prioritizes meeting these unknown faces and showing what the center has to offer.

“We’ve had nothing but great success within the community,” Rutana said. “I know there’s a lot of other garden centers around town. So we really appreciate anytime anyone will give us a shot, and we definitely think we won’t disappoint anybody.”

JTR Garden Center’s operating hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The center is closed on Sunday.

Not only is Rutana bringing his experience directly to the community, but he’s also bringing a celebration to Youngstown with the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“It’s a benchmark point looking at it — which, after two years of putting all the hard work, all the preparation, all the planning — that we’re finally ready to go ahead and be open and let everybody know we’re in business,” Rutana said.
