GM recalls over 14K vehicles. See affected models

General Motors is recalling tens of thousands of its all-electric Cadillac SUVs because of an issue that could trap and seriously injure a child.

The recall covers 14,540 Cadillac VISTIQ SUVs from the 2026 and 2027 model years, according to a report published June 18 on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website.

GM said the affected SUVs' third-row seatbacks can be folded with a single press of a button located in the cargo area or on the vehicle's pillar. However, if the seatback encounters an occupant or object while folding, it stops but does not automatically reverse. According to the automaker, smaller occupants could become trapped beneath the seatback, increasing the risk of injury.

Here's what to know about the models included in the recall and what impacted vehicle owners should do.

What Cadillac VISTIQ models are included in the recall?

The recall affects approximately 14,540 vehicles, including:

  • 2026 Cadillac VISTIQ (13,629 vehicles)
  • 2027 Cadillac VISTIQ (911 vehicles)

The recalled SUVs were built between Nov. 12, 2024, and June 15, 2026.

What should owners of recalled SUVs do next?

GM dealers will replace the third-row folding seat module free of charge. The updated module is designed to automatically reverse the seatback toward the upright position if it encounters enough resistance to stop the folding operation.

Until replacement parts become available, owners who wish to do so may have the third-row power-folding feature disabled at a dealership. Once the new parts are available, the feature will be restored and updated via a separate customer satisfaction campaign.

GM began notifying dealers on June 18. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed out on Aug. 3, while a timeline for the final repair notification has not yet been announced. Owners can also check whether their vehicle is included by searching their vehicle identification number, or VIN, on the NHTSA recall website.

Similar power-folding seat recalls have raised safety concerns

The GM recall follows a similar safety issue involving Hyundai, which earlier this year announced a stop sale and recall affecting more than 60,000 2026 Palisade SUVs equipped with power-folding second- and third-row seats.

Hyundai said those seats could also continue folding without properly detecting an occupant or object. The automaker issued the recall after the death of a 2-year-old girl in Ohio. Hyundai urged owners to avoid using the power-folding seats when anyone or anything is in the seating area while it develops a permanent repair.
