A Mahoning County jury has found 31-year-old Brianna Zagotti guilty of Endangering Children, a Felony to the third degree, in connection with the 2023 overdose death of her one-year-old child, according to officials.

The jury found Zagotti not guilty of Involuntary Manslaughter.

The verdict was reached following a four-day trial in the courtroom of Judge Maureen Sweeney. Assistant Prosecutor Caitlyn Andrews and Assistant Prosecutor Patrick Fening successfully prosecuted the case.

Zagotti will be sentenced at a later date.

Official said in July 2023, Austintown Police responded to Zagotti’s residence at the Compass West apartment complex, where her child was found unresponsive. An autopsy later revealed the presence of fentanyl in the child’s system.

“Our office remains committed to aggressively prosecuting those who harm children and ensuring they face the consequences for their actions,” said Mahoning County Prosecutor Lynn Maro.

Prosecutor Maro also commended the Austintown Police Department for their diligence and hard work in investigating this case.
