Jury convicts man of aggravated vehicular homicide in Mahoning Valley fatal crash
Robert Powell, 25, was convicted of all counts following a three-day jury trial before Judge Donofrio.
Powell was found guilty on one count of Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, a felony of the second degree, one count of Improperly Handling of a Firearm, a felony of the fifth degree, and one count of Operating a Vehicle Impaired (OVI), a misdemeanor of the first degree. Powell’s bond was revoked pending sentencing.
Assistant Prosecutors Edward Walsh and Patrick Fening successfully prosecuted the case.
Officials said the guilty verdict stems from a fatal crash that occurred in Coitsville Township in April 2025.
Evidence presented at trial showed Powell was driving on South Hubbard Road when he ran several stop signs before colliding with the victim’s vehicle. The victim died at the scene.
Responding officers with the Coitsville Police Department conducted OVI testing, which Powell failed before being treated for his injuries and then transported to the Mahoning County Justice Center.
Powell is scheduled to be sentenced on July 7 at 2 PM.
Mahoning County Prosecutor, Lynn Maro, commended the efforts of her assistant prosecutors.
