Youngstown woman sentenced after pleading guilty in child drowning case
Adrianne Hudson, of Youngstown, has been sentenced to 5 to 7½ years in prison after pleading guilty to charges of Involuntary Manslaughter and Child Endangering.
Hudson will also have 2 years of probation following the completion of her prison sentence. The sentence was handed down by Judge Maureen Sweeney in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.
Hudson had been scheduled to go to trial before ultimately agreeing to plead guilty to the indicted charges.
Hudson was originally charged in connection with the September 2023 drowning death of a two-year-old child who had been in her care.
During the recent hearing, the victim’s mother delivered a powerful statement to the court, describing the profound grief and lasting impact the loss has had on her family throughout the process.
Assistant Prosecutor Daniel Yozwiak acknowledged the difficulty of the case and the impact of the loss, while emphasizing the office’s continued commitment to pursuing justice on behalf of the victim and the victim’s family.
Officials said that although Hudson initially plead guilty and was sentenced in October of last year, she later rescinded that plea and the case was set for trial.
Mahoning County Prosecutor Lynn Maro credited the work of Assistant Prosecutors Daniel Yozwiak and Kyle Hilles for their efforts in securing the conviction, as well as the Youngstown Police detectives who conducted the investigation.
