YOUNGSTOWN — Meridian HealthCare and Neil Kennedy Recovery Centers are working together to help reduce the overdose rates in the Mahoning Valley.

In a year of unpredictability and a global pandemic, both organizations are combining their efforts to provide a regional detox program, along with other treatment and supportive services to make sure they can treat any individual in the community who needs help.

"During these unprecedented times with the COVID-19 pandemic and the relentless surge in increased drug overdoses, depression and other mental health issues, including suicide ideation — now more than ever community collaboration is necessary," Carolyn Givens, executive director of Neil Kennedy Recovery Centers, said in a news release.

Neil Kennedy Recovery Centers has served Ohioans since 1946. To celebrate 75 years of treatment and recovery services, NKRC is returning to its tradition of providing a full continuum of care at its Youngstown center, 2151 Rush Blvd.

The NKRC facility will provide 16 beds of medically monitored detox and intensive residential services, with 24/7 access for detox services.

An additional 44 beds are available at four NKRC Sober Homes for less intensive levels of care and provide services including medication assisted treatment, partial hospitalization, family programming, psychological services, yoga, meditation, Zentangle and prevention/wellness.

The NKRC Intensive Outpatient Program at 5211 Mahoning Ave. in Austintown provides IOP group/telehealth sessions four days a week, coupled with individual counseling.

Much like NKRC's history, Meridian has been serving the community for close to 50 years and continues to expand its programs and services to meet the needs of the community.

Meridian offers a 16-bed detox facility at its South Campus location that allows individuals to detox from any drugs or alcohol under the care of medical and mental health professionals. Individuals receive 24/7 care, and starting Friday, Meridian will provide 24/7 admissions to its detox program.

Meridian also offers several other programs and services, including inpatient treatment, outpatient treatment, mental health services, recovery support, more than 200 beds of supportive housing, primary care, family planning services, chiropractic services, acupuncture services and criminal justice services.

"Both organizations want to be there for those in the community who are struggling with an addiction and need access to care," Larry Moliterno, president/CEO of Meridian, said in the release. "Together, we can provide the expertise, programming and support needed to help those in need and reduce the overdose rates in our community."
