BUSINESS UPDATES | Burgan Real Estate offers YSU students chance to win tuition for a year
YOUNGSTOWN — Burgan Real Estate, the official real estate partner of Youngstown State University Athletics, recently announced a promotion to underwrite a student's tuition for a year.
Students in good standing and actively enrolled at YSU during the semester will have the opportunity to enter the $10,000 Putt for Tuition Sweepstakes at eight select YSU men's and women's home basketball games. At tip-off, Burgan Real Estate and YSU Athletics will randomly select one name from the list of entries. The student will have an opportunity to putt a golf ball on the basketball court into a hole cut out of board 94 feet from the putting line.
The select games are:
- 7 p.m. Dec. 2: YSU women vs. Milwaukee;
- 7 p.m. Dec. 8: YSU men vs. Central Michigan;
- 7 p.m. Jan. 13: YSU men vs. Northern Kentucky;
- 7 p.m. Jan. 14: YSU women vs. University of Illinois-Chicago;
- 7 p.m. Jan. 27: YSU men vs. Green Bay;
- 7 p.m. Jan. 28: YSU women vs. Detroit Mercy;
- 7 p.m. Feb. 17: YSU men vs. University of Illinois-Chicago;
- 7 p.m. Feb. 18: YSU women vs. Northern Kentucky.
"Our partnership with YSU, both in the classroom and on the court, has made great strides in enriching the lives of students at YSU," Patrick Burgan, co-owner of Burgan Real Estate, said in a news release. "We have done promotions in the past, but this time we wanted to make it special for the students supporting the Penguins and sitting in the all-new Burgan Real Estate Student Section in Beeghly Center. This promotion will continue to show how our partnership with YSU Athletics is better together."
Canfield Fair rooster statues on display at Shops at Boardman Park
CANFIELD — The Canfield Fair's Flock to the Fairgrounds community art project, consisting of 21 6-inch rooster statues, are on display this holiday season at the former Party Max location at the Shops at Boardman Park, 721 Boardman-Poland Road, Boardman.
The Shops at Boardman Park donated the space for the display of the statues, which were created by local artists and sponsored by local businesses. The display is free and open to the public from noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
The rooster statues will be auctioned off March 26, 2022, at the Canfield Fairgrounds in honor of the 175th Canfield Fair last September.

WRTA to kick off its Holiday Lights campaign
YOUNGSTOWN — The Western Reserve Transit Authority is kicking off its Holiday Lights campaign at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday with an invitation-only event at Concept Studio downtown.
The Holiday Lights campaign honors local organizations "that light up the Valley with their good work 365 days a year," Dean Harris, WRTA's executive director, said in a news release.
The name and logo of each organization will be displayed on the back of select WRTA buses.
"We see the good work they do in the faces of our riders. And we are pleased to do a small part in recognizing that work," Harris said.
The organizations being honored are: Animal Charity of Ohio, Buster's Brigade, City Kids Care, Compass Family and Community Services, Down Syndrome Association of the Valley, Gateways to Better Living, Help Network of NEO (crisis and suicide hotline), Mercy Health Resource Mother's Program, Potential Development, Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County, Project MKC, Rich Center for Autism, Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley, Sight for All United, Students Motivated by the Arts, Ursuline Sisters HIV/AIDS Ministries, Youngstown Community Food Center/Gleaners Food Bank and New Day Recovery.
JoDells Transportation to have ribbon-cutting ceremony
BOARDMAN — JoDells Transportation Co. LLC, 5815 Market St., Suite 6, will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. Friday.
With a fleet of wheelchair-accessible vans, JoDells offers ambulette services and primarily does business with the private sector.
The company offers various services including transporting patients to dialysis and doctor appointments and regular pickups and drop-offs. It also handles passenger admissions to and from a hospital and to special occasions.
"Our company operates all day, every day, including holidays. We take pride in being a professional, nonmedical transportation company," owner Luebertha Greer said in a news release. "We offer competitive rates each way along with charging mileage, and we offer 10% off the total bill for veterans."
