Mercy Health Youngstown and Kindred Rehabilitation Services are partnering to build an acute inpatient rehabilitation hospital in the Mahoning Valley.

Kindred Rehabilitation Services, which is a business unit of Tennessee-based health care provider LifePoint Health, will manage day-to-day operations of the 60-bed Mercy Health Rehabilitation Hospital, a news release states.

The hospital will focus on acute inpatient rehabilitation for patients who suffer from stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, complex neurological disorders, orthopedic conditions, multiple trauma, amputation and other injuries or disorders, according to the release.

Features will include multidisciplinary therapy gymnasiums and a therapeutic courtyard.

“This hospital will greatly expand Mercy Health’s ability to provide much-needed inpatient rehabilitation care and help us further our mission of bringing good help to those in need,” Dr. John Luellen, market president of Mercy Health Youngstown and Lorain, said in the release.

Construction of the hospital is expected to begin in early 2023, with an expected opening in fall 2024. Its location has yet to be determined, a Mercy Health spokesperson told Mahoning Matters Tuesday.
