YOUNGSTOWN — Mayor Jamael Tito Brown appointed Detective Sergeant Carl Davis as Youngstown Police Department chief, effective at 4:01 p.m. today.

Brown announced the retirement of current YPD Chief Robin Lees last week after differing views on the direction of the department. Lees' last day is today.

Davis is currently assigned to the Internal Affairs Division in the police department. He has served YPD for 35 years.

He started as a patrol officer in 1986 and has worked in the YMHA Unit, the Power Shift Unit, Sergeant of the Patrol Division, Detective Bureau and the Internal Affairs Division. He also serves as Head of the Police Chaplaincy Corps.

"Davis has demonstrated quality leadership skills over the years that will benefit the people of Youngstown," Brown said in a news release.
