YOUNGSTOWN — Sales from a new book by actress, photographer, poet and visual artist Kim Novak will benefit The Butler Institute of American Art.
"Kim Novak: Her Art and Life" was published by The Butler, 524 Wick Ave., and was graphically designed and printed by Piper's Printing, 550 E. Main St. #4, Canfield.
A limited number of signed and unsigned copies of the book have been produced and are available for purchase on The Butler's website. Proceeds from the sales of the book will be donated to help fund The Butler's programming.
The 156-page book includes images of artwork representing moments, ideas, values and emotions of Novak's life and the people who inspired them.
"We are so proud to serve as publisher of Kim Novak's wonderful book on her life and art. She is a star in every sense of the word, and her unique abilities as a painter as well as a legendary actress comes through loud and clear in the pages of 'Kim Novak: Her Life and Art,'" Louis Zona, executive director and chief curator of The Butler, said in a news release. The planning for the book came during Novak's retrospective exhibition, "Kim Novak: An Iconic Vision," in summer 2019 as part of The Butler's 100th anniversary celebration. The exhibition was a retrospective collection of more than 75 pieces of her artwork, including works in oil, watercolor, pastel, photography, sculpture, stained glass and poetry. The museum also presented an exhibition of her paintings titled "Kim Novak: Pastel Paintings" in May and June 2014.
