Are you caring for someone with dementia? Virtual series offers guidance
CAMPBELL — Senior Living Connections is hosting a four-part virtual educational series for those caring for someone living with dementia.
Each session in the "Discovering Dementia: Understanding the Journey Through Alzheimer's Disease & Other Dementia's" series will include a question and answer segment.
Here's the schedule (each session will be presented at 6 p.m. on Zoom):
- Thursday — "Part 1: What is Dementia?": Learn what dementia is, the differences between dementia and Alzheimer's disease, brain changes, symptoms, warning signs, risk factors, prevention and more.
- May 6 — "Part 2: Stages & Communication Techniques": Discussion about how to interact with those living with dementia, the various stages of the disease and the best ways to communicate.
- May 20 — "Part 3: Behaviors & Medication Management": A focus on understanding different behaviors that can accompany dementia and managing these challenging situations. The discussion will also look at the various types of medications used in treatment.
- May 27 — "Part 4: Choices at End of Life": A deep dive into what things will look like at the final stage and the challenges you may encounter. Included will be education about end of life care options.
The presenter will be Melissa Chambers, Senior Living Connections advisor — Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. She is a dementia specialist with more than 25 years of experience in health care.
