U.S. Sen Sherrod Brown visits summer manufacturing camp at OH WOW!
YOUNGSTOWN — U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) visited a summer manufacturing camp at OH WOW! The Roger & Gloria Jones Children's Center for Science & Technology on Monday.
The camp is only for girls in fifth- through eighth grade in an effort to address the gender gap in science and technology fields, and spark an interest in electronics and engineering.
Brown said programs like this can help get young people interested and learn skills in the manufacturing industry.
"They'll turn into good jobs," Brown said. "People working with our hands and our brains, and Ohio can help lead the way."
Brown's office started organizing summer manufacturing camps in 2013 in Youngstown. Since then, his office has helped organize 99 camps in 28 counties.
