Aqua Ohio to replace water main in Beaver Township
BEAVER TOWNSHIP — This week, Aqua Ohio is starting an $800,000 project to replace nearly 6,000 feet of water main along Market Street.
The area of construction will stretch from Western Reserve Road south to the Ohio Turnpike (SR 76).
This is the continuation of a project that started in 2020 when 2,700 feet of main was replaced near the intersection of Market Street and Western Reserve Road.
"We're kicking off the project this week and plan to have everything complete by May," said Jennifer Johnson, Aqua's area manager, in a news release. "This is part of a multi-year plan to replace main on Market Street which is the primary supply through Boardman and Beaver townships.
"The new main will increase reliability of service and ensure adequate supply for current and future development in this commercial corridor," she said.
The project includes the replacement of 5,825 linear feet of eight-inch diameter pipe with a 12-inch line and nine new hydrants. It also includes 24 new valves to help isolate portions of the line for future repair or maintenance.
Approximately 40 customers will experience short term interruptions as their individual services are disconnected from the old line and attached to the new main. Those customers will be notified in advance of planned interruptions.
Traffic flow will be maintained in the area with most of the work being conducted in the right of way outside the roadway. However, drivers are asked to use extra caution in the area as crews and equipment may need to intermittently use the southbound lane to support activity on the shoulder of the road.
Aqua Ohio is the state's largest investor-owned drinking water and wastewater utility and serves about 500,000 Ohioans in 19 counties, including about 60,000 people in Mahoning County.
Columbiana County
The state Route 7 bridge replacement located east of Columbiana between SR 14 and Metz Road is expected to be completed by June 30. Traffic is maintained via temporary traffic signals.
