YOUNGSTOWN — Cardinal Mooney High School President Mark Oles and Principal Mark Vollmer have resigned from their positions, effective immediately, according to a Wednesday release from the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown.

The release does not offer a reason for the resignations.

"We realize that sudden change like this will most likely prompt questions and, perhaps, speculation and rumor," the diocese's Most Rev. Bishop George Murry is quoted in the release. "We want to emphasize that this change is the result of much discussion, review and reflection about what is best for Cardinal Mooney's students, parents, teachers, staff and many other supporters."

Cardinal Mooney CEO Richard Osborne will assume the president's duties, and Mary Anne Beiting, the diocese's school accreditation director, will assume the principal's duties for the remainder of the school year, according to the release.

Bishop Murry said the diocese will soon begin the search for the administrators' permanent replacements.

"Here's what's not changing: The Catholic Diocese of Youngstown's commitment to Cardinal Mooney is only growing stronger. Cardinal Mooney has a proud, rich tradition of sanctity, scholarship and discipline. We will build on that as we move forward. Our focus is now on finding the next great Cardinal Mooney leaders."
