YOUNGSTOWN — Mahoning County Probate Court Judge Robert N Rusu Jr. signed an entry authorizing the J. Ford Crandall Memorial Foundation to grant $50,000 to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Mahoning County.

Second Harvest requested funding for the purchase of shelf-stable food items and produce for immediate distribution through a mobile pantry boxed food program. The food bank was experiencing an enormous surge in demand for food assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a news release.

The Crandall trustees — Andrew Bresko, Kevin Chiu, Brad Calhoun, Bruce Sherman and Mike Ray — had an emergency meeting and voted unanimously to approve the grant.
