Lt. Gov. Jon Husted visits YSU to highlight workforce initiatives in the Valley

YOUNGSTOWN — Ohio Lt. Gov. Jon Husted visited Youngstown State University today (Feb. 9) to highlight workforce initiatives in the Mahoning Valley.

The multimillion dollar initiatives are to develop a skilled workforce to meet the needs of the region’s emerging high-tech markets, including elective vehicle, battery and additive manufacturing.

"I’m proud to be here today to play a role ... in this collaboration so that this community can be well-positioned for the future,” Husted said.

Some of the initiatives in the works at YSU include:

  • The Excellence Training Center that is under construction on the YSU campus and is expected to be completed by May;
  • The YSU IT Workforce Accelerator in partnership with IBM;
  • The YSU Energy Storage and Innovation Training Center;
  • Virtual Career Fair;
  • The YSU Center for Workforce Education and Innovation.
