American Rescue Plan summit kicks off discussion on Youngstown’s relief funds

YOUNGSTOWN — The American Rescue Plan summit began today (Thursday) to discuss how the city might spend $82.7 million in federal relief funds.

The two-day summit will host sessions with City Council, city department heads, community partners, business community leaders, neighborhood groups and other institutions and partners.

The sessions include an informational presentation on the American Rescue Plan guidelines and a question and answer session.

Finance Director Kyle Miasek said the city will receive the first part of the funding next week. The city will receive the next part of the funding in 2022, and funds can be spent through 2024.

Some example for the use of the American Rescue Plan funds include:

  • Support public health response;
  • Replace public sector revenue loss;
  • Water and sewer infrastructure;
  • Address negative economic impacts;
  • Premium pay for essential workers;
  • Broadband infrastructure.
