Mahoning County Public Health to offer rabies vaccination clinic for dogs, cats and ferrets
Mahoning County Public Health will offer a rabies vaccination clinic for dogs, cats and ferrets from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 7 at Angels for Animals, 4750 W. South Range Road, Canfield.
Pets brought to the clinic must be on a leash or in a cage or pillowcase, a news release states. To receive a three-year booster shot, pet owners must show proof of a prior rabies vaccination on or after Aug. 7, 2021. Without proof of prior vaccination, the pet will receive only a one-year vaccination, the release states.
The cost is $8 per shot (cash only). No appointment is necessary.
A rabies shot is required for all dogs, cats and ferrets over age 3 months in Mahoning County, the release states.
To help protect against rabies, Mahoning County Public Health recommends the following guidelines:
Vaccinate your pets.
Maintain control of your pets to reduce their exposure to wildlife.
Spay or neuter to decrease the number of stray animals.
Avoid contact with wildlife and stray animals.
Wash any animal bite areas thoroughly and follow up with a doctor.
