UPDATE | Trumbull County Prosecutor’s Office awarded $495K to help combat violent crime
The Trumbull County Prosecutor’s Office on Friday was awarded a $495,151 state grant to help combat violent crime.
Gov. Mike DeWine announced that 16 law enforcement agencies in the state will receive a total of $5.7 million “to help prevent and solve instances of violent crime,” a news release states.
The Salem Police Department was awarded $159,704, the East Liverpool Police Department was awarded $323,413 and the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office will receive $110,640.
The funds are part of the sixth round of funding through the Ohio Violent Crime Reduction Grant Program. To date, $28.7 million has been awarded to 99 Ohio law enforcement agencies, the release states.
“Law enforcement agencies have created innovative and strategic initiatives to prevent and disrupt crime across the state,” DeWine said in the release. “Each agency’s needs may be slightly different, but they share a common goal of creating safer communities, and my office is proud to support them.”
The sixth round of grants were funded through American Rescue Plan Act funds, according to the release.
In the first round of funding, the Warren Police Department was awarded $218,344 and the Northern Ohio Violent Crime Consortium, which includes the Youngstown Police Department, received $130,418.
In the third round, the Austintown Township Police Department was awarded $281,800, the Sebring Police Department was awarded $51,521 and the Milton Township Police Department received $18,000.
In the fourth round, the Jackson Township Police Department was awarded $35,846, the Niles Police Department was awarded $262,350 and the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office received $366,799.
In the fifth round, the Cortland Police Department was awarded $112,097.
No law enforcement agencies in the Mahoning Valley received funds in the second round.
