Ohio secretary of state to encourage voter registration, civic engagement in Youngstown

Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose will visit Youngstown on Wednesday to encourage voter registration and civic engagement.

LaRose will attend a Styling for Democracy event at 3 p.m. at Beyond Expectations Barber College, 2246 Glenwood Ave.

The Styling for Democracy program, which began in 2020, enlists “the help of beauty salons and barbershops to sign up to be poll workers, register their families and friends to vote, and educate the community on requesting and completing absentee ballots,” a news release states.

“For generations, beauty salons and barber shops have served as special places — as much a social hub as they are an economic engine. They are places not only to get hair care services but sanctuaries where neighbors can discuss politics and the issues of importance in the community,” LaRose states on the Styling for Democracy website.
