Mahoning County Auditor Ralph T. Meacham is telling taxpayers that they can file a complaint against the listed property valuation if they disagree with the market value.

Filing this complaint appeals the value placed on a property, not the amount of taxes due on a property.

What happens when a property value complaint is filed?

When a taxpayer files a complaint, a hearing may be scheduled. This hearing allows taxpayers to present evidence to the Board of Revision to appeal the auditor’s decision.

According to Meacham, supporting evidence can include settlement statements, purchase agreements and fee appraisals. Such evidence can expedite the appeal process.

“While property taxes cannot be disputed, it is a taxpayer’s right to review and appeal their property value. I encourage taxpayers to visit our website for more detailed information regarding the appeal process, and as always, taxpayers can call my office with any questions,” Meacham said.

Where to find the Mahoning County property value complaint form?

The complaint packet can be found on the Board of Revision page on the auditor’s website or taxpayers can call Meacham’s office at 330-740-2010 to request a form be sent to them.

These complaints must be filed and received in the Mahoning County Auditor’s Office on or before the close of business on March 31, 2023.
