An 18-year-old Youngstown man is facing a felony charge after a police pursuit after he dropped a 21-year-old shooting victim at Mercy Health Downtown, according to Youngstown police reports.

When police arrived at the scene to investigate a Sunday morning shooting on I-680 southbound just before the Glenwood/Mahoning exit, the victim had already been taken from the scene before anyone arrived.

During the investigation, police said Jaylen Jackson and a juvenile male dropped the victim off in a white Jeep Cherokee.

Detectives later found the vehicle on Oregon Street on the city’s west side, reports indicated. When police and detectives approached the automobile, Jackson drove the car away at a high rate of speed and police engaged in a 21-minute pursuit before the vehicle came to a stop near McCartney and Oak.

Police then arrested Jackson and the vehicle was towed.

Police said he was questioned by detectives regarding his involvement with the shooting incident earlier and was booked on a third-degree felony charge of Failure to Comply with Signal/Order of Police Officer.

Police said additional charges could be filed.

According to reports, the shooting victim is still in critical condition.
