Meet Morgan Jones: The make-up artist entrepreneur helping others find their beauty
Morgan Jones owns Made By Morgan, a makeup business located within the Youngstown Business Incubator at 241 W Federal St. She started the brand by teaching herself and officially launched it in 2015.
MBM’s services include a range of lash and makeup styles listed on her booking site for any occasion. She notes customers enjoy her ‘Natural Glam’ option the most as it’s a “Simple look that will steal the show” that compliments their innate beauty.
As a professional, the Youngstown State University alumna approaches business from a learning perspective, continuing to educate herself on the latest in her industry to perfect her craft.
“The unique business strategy that I have is knowing that you can always be better than you are even when you think you have reached your peak; no matter how good you are, there’s always somebody better, and with that mindset, you’ll never stop aiming for the top,” she said.
Morgan Jones also provides makeup workshops
In addition to makeup application, Jones is creating a pathway for others in her community to follow their dreams in beauty by providing makeup workshops. She offers a hands-on curriculum that guides attendees on industry techniques they can apply independently, from beginners to those more.
The budding entrepreneur remains hard at work to empower herself and says she is part of a generation that continues to push the needle forward for Black-owned businesses that historically faced economic challenges due to systemic barriers.
“Working for someone else is not the only way to survive anymore. We’re allowed to be the boss. We’re allowed to be the ones running the show, and we no longer have to sit in the shadows of our oppressors. We have made a name for ourselves, and no one should be allowed to dim our light anymore, Jones said.
What’s next for Morgan Jones?
In the future, Jones aspires to grow her brand by opening her salon, where she can create an empire and support the next generation.
“I hope that MBM continues to ring bells even when I’m not providing makeup services anymore. I want to instill my knowledge into as many young girls as possible so that when I pass the torch, I know the next generation is in good hands.”
