Girard man killed in officer-involved shooting
A Girard man is dead following an officer-involved shooting early Tuesday morning in Brookfield Township, according to reports.
Ohio State Highway Patrol, Lordstown Village Police Department, Vienna Township Police Department, and Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 1:04 a.m. call from the Brookfield Township Police Department about a man alleged to be criminally trespassing on a cabin on private property, police said.
According to reports, the man, identified as Fred H. Wild III, 50, jumped out of the cabin into the driver’s seat of a stolen pickup truck with a snowplow attached to the front.
Wild attempted to flee and “charged at officers with stolen vehicle.”
Police said multiple officers fired weapons and struck Wild, who was pronounced dead on the scene.
The incident is currently being investigated by BCI.
