Mayor James Melfi and the Girard Police Department want motorists traveling in neighborhoods to slow down, especially on South Davis Street.

They’ve installed a stationary speed radar monitor to let drivers see their speed while traveling on South Davis Street near the Trumbull Market and several local bus stops.

It’s in response to several calls about drivers going over the posted 25 miles per hour while traveling on the road.

The radar speed sign will show drivers their current traveling speed. Still, it won’t take any license plate pictures or issue citations.

According to the Girard Police Department, the sign “helps people be more conscientious of their driving, especially in residential areas.”

More officers will be in the area watching for drivers not obeying the speed signs, so watch your speed.
