MIKE BROWN: Many area players in annual  North-South Football Classic games

The area will be well represented when the annual Ohio North-South Football Classic games are slated April 29 at historic Paul Brown Tiger Stadium in Massillon. The Division I-III game is set for noon and the Division IV-VII contest will kick off at 4 p.m.

Who is on the The North Division I-III roster?

The North Division I-III roster includes Youngstown Ursuline offensive linemen Isaac Lucas and Brian Frasco. Another player selected for the offensive line is Austintown Fitch’s Josh Fitzgerald.

On defense, Youngstown Chaney’s Jason Hewlett, bound for the University of Michigan, has been selected to play linebacker for the North team, while his Cowboy teammate DJ Waller will play at defensive back.

The head coach of the North Division I-III team is Anthony Wayne’s Andy Brungard.

Who is on the North Division IV-VII roster?

South Range, which won the Division V state title last fall, leads the area in players chosen for the North team in the Division IV-VII game. Raiders playing in the contest include wideout Aayden Leon, tight end JD Crouse and defensive lineman Ryan Bailey.

West Branch, which advanced to the D4 regional title game the past two seasons, will be represented in the game by defensive lineman Thomas Egli.

The North’s offensive line will include a number of area standouts, including Hubbard’s Ben Chaney, Brookfield’s Connor Heater, East Liverpool’s Mason Ludwig and Beaver Local’s Zane McCoy. Chosen for the defensive backfield is United Local’s Grant Knight.

The North’s Division IV-VII head coach is Broc Dial of Dalton High School.
