MIKE BROWN: Youngstown State-Ohio State game will be a homecoming for Doug Phillips
When Youngstown State’s football team plays at Ohio State this fall it will be a homecoming of sorts for Penguin head football coach Doug Phillips.
Doug Phillips’ connection with Ohio State
Phillips is a former Buckeye assistant coach. He served as the Defensive Quality Control coach for then head coach Jim Tressel in 2006 for the Buckeyes.
Phillips enters his fourth season as Youngstown State’s football coach in the fall. He led the Penguins to a 7-4 finish last season.
This year’s Ohio State-Youngstown State game is slated September 9 at Ohio Stadium in Columbus. The starting time is yet to be determined.
The Buckeyes and Penguins have played two times in football. Their last meeting occurred in 2008 when Ohio State posted a 43-0 win in Columbus. The Buckeyes lead the series, 2-0.
