Mahoning Valley election guide 2023: What you need to know ahead of today’s primary election
May 2 is the Ohio primary election. In the Mahoning Valley, the polls will be open for voters tomorrow from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.
Here’s what you need to know before heading to the polls.

Main issues: continuous 3.95 mills levy for Weathersfield Twp fire and EMS; 2-mill continuous levy for Bazetta Twp fire department; Lordstown income tax increase by 0.5%
Columbiana County
There aren’t any contested races in Columbiana County, but there are a few issues to know about before heading to the polls in your area.
Salem City Schools has a tax levy on the ballot that, if passed, would allow the construction of a brand new Pre-K through 8th-grade building.
It’s “a 2.98-mill levy, plus an additional 0.5-mills for 37 years,” according to the Columbiana County Board of Elections and news coverage.
There’s also a 1.5-mill renewal tax levy for Perry Township fire and police departments. In East Liverpool, a business requesting to sell liquor on Sundays needs voters’ approval.
