• To thank visitors, Ward Beecher Planetarium is letting them vote for any of the shows on this year’s schedule to run one more time. The visitor appreciation shows start at 8 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday

• Celebrate Cinco de Mayo from 4 p.m. until midnight at the city of Youngstown’s First Friday kicking off summer

• Check out the free live music at 6 p.m. at “Party on the Lawn” at the Youngstown Foundation Amphitheatre

• A chess club will be held at 5 p.m. in Mercer, Pa.

May 6

• Ellen J. Tressel, philanthropist and community leader, will speak at Youngstown State University’s Spring Commencement ceremony, 1 p.m. May 6, in Stambaugh Stadium on campus.
• Any time from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., stop by opening day of the Farmers Market at Austintown Township Park
• Visit the spring open house from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. happening at John’s Country Nursery in Middlefield
• Compete for the largest catch in the weekend-long crappie fishing tournament at Mahaney Access Boat Ramp in Sharpsville. Registration details are available online.
• Attend the annual Farm Animal Baby Shower from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. to meet new arrivals at the MetroParks Farm including goats, piglets, calves, chicks, alpacas and peacocks. The farm is located at 7574 Columbiana-Canfield Road in Canfield.

• Girls ages 3 to 9 can bring their mom, grandma or special adult to Mommy and Me for Tea 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 3 - 5 p.m. for a tea and fashion show at the Lariccia Family Community Center in Boardman Park
