Mark Robinson impressing early at Pittsburgh Steelers OTAs
PITTSBURGH -- Camp standouts are a yearly thing for all 32 NFL teams, but for the Pittsburgh Steelers, they’ve been able to land a few early impressors as key pieces to their roster come the season.
Last year, it was Jaylen Warren and George Pickens. This year, it appears inside linebacker Mark Robinson is the name to watch after a hot start.
Mark Robinson opened eyes with interception of Kenny Pickett
Robinson stole the show during Week 2 of OTAs by intercepting Kenny Pickett and genuinely not caring about who was throwing the football.
“It was a ball-aware play,” Robinson said about intercepting Pickett in practice. “It came to me, and I took advantage of the opportunity.”
“Of course,” Robinson said when asked if he knew who threw the ball. “I only see helmets and numbers. I can care less about who throws it. I’m here to play against anybody who shows up. Nameless grey faces.”
How Mark Robinson can create a niche for himself in second year as a Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker
Robinson is looking to carve out a role for himself in year two of his NFL journey and has a shot at competing for a starting job at inside linebacker. He’s ready for whatever comes his way, and is using the motivation from last season to drive him this summer.
“It’s a dream worth living,” Robinson said about what he learned playing last season. “Everything you imagined, everything you dreamed of, it’s that.”
With the Steelers slowly working Cole Holcomb into action as he returns from foot surgery, Robinson will get plenty of reps to showcase his growth during camp. And right now, he appears to be the summer star Pittsburgh fans should get excited about.
“Opportunities come and you have to run with them,” Robinson said. “Any time we get a rep on that grass, it’s gold and I treat it as such. And I plan to keep doing so.”
