Over 8,500 students received their diplomas from Eastern Gateway Community College this year, marking the largest graduating class ever for the college.

The celebration started this past Friday with Grad Fest, a chance for students and families to honor their achievements.

“It was great to see our graduating class of 2023 having a chance to come together and celebrate their success,” said Michael Geoghegan, Eastern Gateway Community College President. “Many of our students take classes online, so Grad Fest was a great opportunity for those students to be face-to-face with their fellow graduates.”

Then this Saturday, close to a thousand students packed the Pavilion at Star Lake in Burgettstown.

Speakers included Geoghegan and U.S. Congressman Bill Johnson.

“It’s hard to put into words the emotions of the day. For many of our students, they are first-generation college graduates. Many are veterans and first responders,” the president said. “At Eastern Gateway, we pride ourselves on setting up our students for success. And as I looked out on the sea of graduates on Saturday, I saw a whole class of amazing men and women who will go on to do great things in our community and across the nation. It’s a good year to be a Gator!”
