Independence Day celebration continues with free music and fireworks at Boardman Park

The Fourth of July celebrations are not over yet. The fun continues this weekend with the annual Boardman Park Independence Day concert and Fireworks display. The festivities kick off 8:15 p.m. July 8 at the Maag Theatre with music from the Salem Quaker City Band.

The Cafaro Foundation gives $400,000 to John F. Kennedy Catholic School in Warren

The Cafaro Foundation gave $400,000 to John F. Kennedy Catholic School in Warren to assist the school in upgrading its athletic facilities.

“We have always been committed to helping the school succeed in its mission to provide a well-rounded experience for students” said Cafaro Foundation Trustee, William A. Cafaro. “This donation will allow the administration to concentrate its financial resources on instructional needs and still be able to make essential improvements to its physical campus.”

Educational Service Center of Eastern Ohio looking for substitute teachers

The Educational Service Center of Eastern Ohio (ESCEO) is hosting recruitment events in search of substitute teachers for the 2023-24 school year. These events will be held from 9-10:30 a.m. on July 13, August 4, August 16, and September 15 at 7320 N. Palmyra Rd., Canfield, 44406.

Anyone with an associate’s degree or higher can substitute teach. The Mahoning Valley Regional Council of Governments (MVRCOG) assists candidates with the process to become a substitute teacher.

Areas in need of substitute teachers include Austintown, Boardman, Campbell, Canfield, ESCEO, Lowellville, Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, Mahoning County Board of Developmental Disabilities, Poland, and Struthers.

Mill Creek MetroParks sets upcoming meetings

The Board of Park Commissioners of Mill Creek MetroParks has scheduled a Special Board Meeting for 8 a.m. July 8 in the Education Building – Classroom A, at the MetroParks Farm, on Rt. 46, in Canfield.

The only item on the agenda is a Board Retreat to discuss Board Governance, no decisions will be made.

In addition, the next regular meeting of the Board of Park Commissioners, of Mill Creek MetroParks is scheduled for 6 p.m. July 10 in the Education Building - McMahon Hall, at the MetroParks Farm, on Route 46, in Canfield. The agenda will be available on the website after 2 p.m. on the day of the meeting. A meeting of the Public Records Commission will be held prior to the Regular Board Meeting at 5:30 p.m. at the same location.

Speaker to share war stories from WWII veterans at Heritage Manor

Todd DePastino will share war stories from WWII veterans at 11 a.m. July 18 at Heritage Manor Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation, 517 Gypsy Lane. The program is part of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation’s Nosh & Knowledge speaker series.
