Man accused of burglary at Howland veterinary hospital
A 26-year-old man identified as a John Doe was taken to Trumbull County jail July 17 and charged him with burglary after the Town and Country Veterinary Hospital, 8000 E. Market St. in Howland reported that someone stole items from its surgery center.
When did the incident start?
A police report said officers were advised about 11:41 a.m. that a man was outside of the building in possession of a surgical kit.
Hospital staff notified police they were locking down the office because the man was possibly holding scales and other dangerous items.
The staff told officers the man had come into the office requesting to use the rest room near the kennel enterance. The man then walked down the hallway and entered the kennel heading to the surgery center, where he removed the surgical kit from a shelf, the report states.
Suspect reportedly involved in other incidents that day
The man was identified as wearing a gray shirt and he was later spotted on Laurelwood Drive Southeast by a woman who said he walked up to her on her back porch, and started drinking from her cup of coffee.
After the man was ordered to leave the home, he was later spotted by staff of Leo’s restaurant as he walked into the main entrance and into the owner’s office asking for cigarettes and money.
The man upon request left the restaurant without incident, the report states.
When he left the restaurant, the man was approached by Howland officers who ordered him to the ground, where he was searched and handcuffed, police said.
The man refused to give his name and continued to talk incoherently. The man did not have any items that were reported stolen earlier from the veterinary office. He was taken to the office where staff positively identified him as the bandit, the report states.
