The following journalists are being inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame:

  • Gerry Ricciutti, senior reporter at WKBN and WYTV;
  • Emily Webster Love, former associate metro editor at The Tribune Chronicle;
  • Dennis B. Mangan, retired Vindicator editorial page editor;
  • the late Ann N. Przelomski, who was managing editor of The Vindicator.

The press club’s Hall of Fame and Awards Banquet is at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 7 at Stambaugh Auditorium.

Gerry Ricciutti

Covering what’s important to the people living in the Valley, Gerry Ricciutti is a well-known, trusted source for news in Mahoning Valley living rooms for 35 years.

He’s currently a reporter for WKBN/WYTV in Youngstown.

From March to December 2007, he was managing editor and acting news director at WYTV.

Emily Love Webster

In her many journalism roles around and outside the Valley, Emily Love Webster has been a passionate advocate for the role of newspapers as an integral member of the communities they cover.

She began working for newspapers as a proofreader for The Tribune Chronicle, then transitioned over to The Vindicator in 1968 as a Warren Bureau reporter.

In 1987, she came back to The Tribune Chronicle as a copy editor, feature writer and associate metro editor.

Then Love became executive editor of The Town Crier weekly newspapers. Later, she became an outside contractor for USA Today’s Life, Money and News desks.

Her award-winning journalism career continues today; she remotely covers news for a small weekly newspaper in southwestern Virginia’s coal fields and is a published author working on more books.

Dennis B. Mangan

For over forty years, Dennis Mangan has been influential in telling the stories of the Mahoning Valley as part of the editorial team for The Vindicator.

He began working for The Vindicator in 1971, working many positions since including city editor.

He worked his way up to become the editorial page editor.

Mangan writes and manages thoroughly researched editorial pages that express the official views of the publisher in a succinct manner. They’ve won statewide Associated Press awards over the years for the pages.

Ann N. Przelomski

When mostly men were rising to the top in the Mahoning Valley newsrooms, Ann N. Przelomski was the exception and inspiration for upcoming women in news.

In the late 1940s, Przelomski started as a reporter at The Vindicator and worked her way to become the first female assistant city editor, city editor and managing editor.

She was known for having an “encyclopedic knowledge of the Mahoning Valley and its institutions and leaders” and insisting on “factual accuracy, objectivity, and fairness, and correct spelling, grammar and word use.”

Przelomski retired in 1988 and died at the age of 82 in 2001.

Medal of Merit: Mary Beth Earnheardt

The press club will also present the medal of merit to Mary Beth Earnheardt during the ceremony in September. She’s being recognized for her role in re-establishing the press club in 2018 and guiding it in the years that followed.

Earnheardt is the chairwoman of Youngstown State University’s communication department and a professor in the Anderson Journalism Program.

She teaches communication law and journalism history. Earnheardt has published articles and book chapters on war reporting, political motives and the First Amendment.
