Legislation that passed the Florida House on Friday, March 17, 2023, would overhaul the state’s legal landscape, including making it harder to sue insurance companies and limiting the amount of time someone could file a negligence lawsuit from four years to two. Jurors heard over three hours of state testimony on Tuesday during the trial of Ronique Requel, who is charged with the shooting death of 28-year-old Adam Spaid on Feb. 5, 2023 during a home invasion at a Milton Street SE home in Warren.

Testimony came from five members of the Warren Police Department, including four officers, including Sgt. Trevor Sumption who responded to the crime scene in the immediate aftermath of the shooting. Three of the officers reviewed the details of their findings and jurors saw snippets of each of three’s body cam videos from the police call.

Detective Brian Crites also testified that he immediately investigated the scene and noticed evidence of a house break-in at the front door, and collected numerous ballistic evidence including projectiles and shell casings. He also located a empty Grub Hub delivery bag in the front yard of a neighboring home.

Testimony will continue Wednesday morning at 9. Common Pleas Judge Andrew D. Logan confirmed the state testimony will extend into Aug. 2.

Requel faces seven felony counts, including aggravated murder. Testimony showed Spaid was shot more than 10 times.
