Strongest men and women in the Mahoning Valley setting records for Nora
Iron Fit Crew hosts their fourth annual strength and endurance competition among Ohio’s strongest men and women, with proceeds being donated to a family in Boardman.
Dylan Schmidt, the owner of IFC, explained each yearly event is a sanctioned strongman competition that gives athletes a chance to qualify for United States Strongman Nationals and attempt to beat USS National records.
But most importantly, they come together to raise money for local causes.
Records for Nora
The crew is raising money for the Sabella family in Boardman this year.
Nora Sabella went through three battles with cancer by the age of nine. Nora passed away in April of this year.
“We all strive to have as much strength as Nora showed throughout her battles with cancer. We thought Nora was the example of strength, determination and courage we all try to achieve, not only in strength sports, but in life,” said Schmidt.
Proceeds raised during this weekend’s event benefit the family.
The event starts at 9 a.m. Saturday on Spring Street in Struthers. Admission is free.
Ohio’s Strongest Man and Woman Contest
Here’s what spectators can expect at Ohio’s Strongest Man and Woman Contest at IFC in Struthers:
- Schmidt and Shawn Schumaker of Team BSS in Boardman will attempt an 18” Deadlift fundraiser. One dollar will be donated for every pound they lift.
- During ‘Records for Nora,’ athletes challenge world records at 9 a.m., followed by Ohio’s strongest competition at 11:30 a.m.
- Stop next door for take-out at Senor Jalapeno or grab a bite from DonaVito’s. Visit the local vendors selling merchandise.
Staying strong in Struthers
Struthers will host athletes from across fourteen different 14 states and the United Kingdom to break World Records in honor of Nora.
“We are really excited to hold such a large event here in Struthers and highlight the city itself,” said Catherine Cercone Miller, mayor of Struthers. “The partnership with Iron Fit Crew and constant communication is something we strive for throughout the city with our businesses.”
Athletes and the community can celebrate her life and support her family on International Nora Strong Saturday.
