Warren man arrested on shoplifting charge has arson charge added from July fire
A 38-year-old Warren man who was arrested Sunday morning on a shoplifting charge at the Bazetta Walmart Supercenter is being held in Trumbull County jail on arson charges connected to the late July fire at the Mayfair Laundromat on Elm Road in Howland.
Michael Robinson faces theft charges in Trumbull County Central District Court and arson charges in Warren Municipal Court.
About 6:20 a.m. the morning of Sunday, Aug. 20, a man with a facemask and black hoodie was seen pushing a buggy full of merchandise worth about $1,300, through the Walmart parking lot toward the McDonald’s restaurant off Millennial Boulevard, according to a police report.
The man, identified as Robinson, was later caught by police hiding in a weeded area near a dumpster for a neighboring business as he was trying to escape on a bicycle pulling a trailer, a report stated.
Investigators stated the July fire at the coin operated laundry began near a gaming machine. The blaze caused an estimated $1.5 million damage.
