The Youngstown Education Association and the Youngstown City School District are continuing talks over a new labor deal over the holiday weekend.

Youngstown Education Association spokesman Jim Courim said the sides met yesterday and have a Zoom call planned for this afternoon.

Courim said teachers are upset they haven’t seen a new offer from the board,

“Despite the Board’s indications that they had proposals ready early in the weekend, the Board has in fact given no proposal of any kind for YEA to work with as of this Monday release,” he said. “The parties scheduled six hours of negotiations on Sunday, and instead of the proposal the Board was to have prepared, the Board presented the union with a PowerPoint presentation on district finances. It is a blatant and appalling attempt to stall negotiations, despite the fact that Youngstown students are about to miss their ninth day of school on Tuesday.“
