As Youngstown Education Association and Youngstown City School District officials negotiated into the night Friday before ending early Saturday morning without a deal, a war of words is developing between local politicians and the local school board.

State Senator Michael Rulli called for the resignation of school superintendent Jeremy Batchelor, while State Representative Lauren McNally questioned the board and school board’s ability to lead the district.

The district responded with a statement that said. “We are not impressed with the support, or lack thereof, that we have received at the state level. Youngstown is currently fighting for our lives against those who have made it their mission to destroy this district.”

Talks continued into the night with no reported agreement.
