Disabled Youngstown bunny in cape wins big in global pet calendar contest
One of the rescues at FSR5 Rabbit Rescue and Sanctuary in Youngstown won big in a global pet calendar contest.
A disabled bunny, Frankie Blue Eyes, from Youngstown, has been selected to be featured in the Walkin’ Pets 2024 Calendar.
The ninth annual calendar contest helps to raise pet mobility awareness.
Walkin’ Pets celebrates the strength and spirit of handicapable animals like Frankie Blue Eyes.
All 2024 Walkin’ Pets Calendar proceeds will be donated to the Handicapped Pets Foundation to help disabled and injured pets who need wheelchairs.
The 2024 Walkin’ Pets Calendar costs $14.95 and is now available for preorder.
Meet Bunny Frankie Blue Eyes
Rescued in the fall of 2022 by a good Samaritan, Frank was found paralyzed, matted and covered in leaves and filth.
It took the Youngstown rescuers two hours to clean Frank.
Malnourished and in pain, the sanctuary cared for Frank for over four months until he was strong enough to pull himself around.
Once Frankie got his new Walkin’ Wheels wheelchair, his personality blossomed, according to rescuers. They said he uses his abilities to advocate for people and pets with different abilities.
Why Frankie wears a cape
Frankie wears a gold cape for cancer awareness.
He even traveled from Ohio to Atlanta to attend the Make it Better for Kids with Osteosarcoma Factor Conference.
They wanted to “show that even a paralyzed bunny is never too broken to be given a second chance at mobility.”
“Frankie was such a hit at our FACTOR conference,” said Isabel Wolf, Director of Programs at MIB Agents Osteosarcoma Alliance. “The warriors simply loved him, especially our kids with their own limb loss. We are all hoping to greet him again in June of 2024. Thank you, Frankie Blue Eyes, for Making it Better for children with osteosarcoma.”
