Boardman man gets 120-day jail term after conviction on ten counts of theft

The following cases were handled Tuesday before Judge Andrew D. Logan of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court:

  • John P. Bartos, 40, of Valley View Drive, Boardman, was given a five-year basic probation, beginning with a 120-day jail term for his conviction of 10 counts of theft. On Aug. 30, Bartos pleaded guilty to a bill of information listing the fifth-degree felony counts. The facts in the state’s case against Bartos involve his contracting with ten clients to perform home construction services throughout Trumbull County. After receiving various down payments from each client, the state says Bartos did not complete the work. Judge Logan told the defendant he would consider an early release from jail if he paid the entire $27,653 in restitution to the ten victims. Bartos and his lawyer, Frank Cassese, said the defendant had a terrible gambling addiction that led to severe financial problems. The judge, however, termed his behavior as “a course of criminal conduct,” saying Bartos faces similar charges in other Ohio counties and out-of-state.
  • Lamar J. Russaw, 32, was given a 12-month prison sentence for a conviction of attempted possession of a deadly weapon while under detention. Russaw, who pleaded guilty to the fourth-degree felony charge in late August, was serving three assault convictions out of Cuyahoga County when, on May 24, 2022, corrections officers found two homemade shanks in a trash can located in Russaw’s cell in Trumbull Correctional Institution. Judge Logan said Russaw’s pre-sentence background report found him to be at a high risk of reoffending, thus making him unamenable to either probation or a term in the community alternative program.
